Puppet Show Anyone?

Drama has been a great way for children to learn to express themselves. Kids who are shy have been known to blossom when taking on the role of someone else. A super way to introduce your kids to the performing arts is through puppets.  Another great way to reach shy kids is to watch a puppet show.  Children identify with puppets and  see them as friendly and non threatening. They will talk to puppets in a way they would not talk to an adult. Puppets also have a therapeutic affect on kids who have been through trauma or illness.

Imagine your child as the neighborhood puppet master, putting on shows with and for his friends and family. What a great training ground for performing in public, developing social and decision making skills. Having an audience applause their performances does great things for kids’ self esteem. Little children could start with tabletop puppets, putting on plays for you while you work in the kitchen. As they grow, they can move on to glove puppets or hand puppets. Perhaps this would lead them into an interest in ventriliquism.  They may even some day start or participate in a puppet ministry with their youth group or church. The possibilities are endless!
